Reviews

All Music Guide – copyright

During his Columbia years from 1956-1970 Dave Brubeck was frequently taped by others while on European tours. The source of this LP is likely a backstage recorder; although there is some occasional tape flutter and Brubeck and Desmond sound a little more distant than one would expect, the music itself is quite enjoyable. The program includes a swinging "Swanee River," a crowd pleasing version of "In Your Own Sweet Way" (already on its way to becoming a jazz standard), a brisker than usual "Koto Song," and the infrequently heard "Osaka Blues" and "Cable Car." The rarer live tracks make this record worth the search for it.
